The Majority Rules…….. or Does it?

One of the basic tenets of a democratic society is the rule by majority. The collective voice of all in favor of a particular candidate, or law, in most cases will rule. This was the method created by the ancient Greeks and has held fast until now. One can only wonder how our democratic society would function, or even survive, with out the rule by majority.

Wisconsin and Big Labor is giving us a look at the future unless we wake up.

We all know the issue at hand. The newly elected republican governor of Wisconsin is struggling with  a mountain of debt. Does this sound familiar? In order to bring costs under control the GOP led legislature passed a bill that would restrict the collective bargaining rights of state employee unions. We all know the furor that ensued but what was forgotten was there was no hue and cry from fellow federal employee union members  in solidarity. In fact, the only people who seemed concerned were college students from the University of Wisconsin. Look at the videos and what do you see? But I digress.

The union mounted a legal campaign against the new law and got a judge to block enactment of the new law. The decision would be decided in the Supreme Courts of Wisconsin and eventually the USSC. But there was an election coming and one of the justices in Wisconsin (conservative) was up for re-election. He is Justice David Prosser who was appointed to the bench in 1998 and won a second term in 2001 and has served ever since. He is being challenged by liberal Joanne Kloppenburg.

The unions got behind Ms. Kloppenburg and one committee alone contributed $1,363,040 to her campaign. Probably more than Governor Walker raised throughout his entire campaign.

Then there is the fact that Wisconsin is one of the few states where a voter may register to vote just before he or she votes! A practice such as this is ripe for fraud and several facts are now coming to light about this election and potential fraud. (and let’s not forget Al Franken from Minnesota where the same law exists) The election now stands with Ms. KloppenBurg with a 204 vote lead which will require a recount. This election is far from over but it may prove that union money has defeated the rule by majority.
